As the portable music industry really kicks off, there is some confusion surrounding this new format. Piracy concerns top the list for record labels and consumers find themselves a little unsure what's legal and what's not.
Let's look at some of the basic questions about portable music and the answers to help you steer clear of piracy concerns:
What is portable music?
Technically this is anything that can be listened to on the go. Whether it's a CD in a CD player or an MP3 in a download device, if you can take it with you, it's portable. The most common definition of this today, however, is the download format, or MP3.
Where do you get portable music?
There are a variety of legal download sites on the Internet. Specialty companies, music labels and even big-name department stores offer music for purchase by the song or by the album over an Internet connection. There are even gift cards available for portable music downloads so friends can buy their own choices of songs.
How can you tell a site is legal?
Reputable sites that offer portable music downloads have licensing agreements with the record labels. This means that for each song that's downloaded the correct labels and artists will get their cut of the royalties. If a site offers copyrighted music for free, it's very likely the downloads are not legal. There are, however, lots of songs in the public domain, which means their download is free and legal. If you're unsure, check into a site's background before making the downloads.
Can you really get caught?
Yes. Illegal sites are being shut down all the time and music labels are tracking downloads from the sites via IP addresses. This means it is possible for a record company to track who has illegal downloads and who doesn't. This doesn't necessarily mean they'll prosecute everyone who makes an illegal download, but it can happen.
Can you make backups of music downloads?
Yes, in most cases you can. Some download sites even offer special programs that enable the creation of backup CDs or they'll store the buys online for you so if your hard drive crashes, you still have access to your purchases. Some portable download sites will even enable the copying of music on to multiple devices, but this will depend on the site music is purchased from.
Can you make copies of downloads to give away?
No. You can buy music for others as a gift, but buying a single song and copying it for 50 people is called piracy. Exercise common sense here to avoid any issues.
What stops a person from making copies of portable music?
Digital Rights Management, or DRM, protection is often included in downloads. This is a special programming key that disables copies after X amount or it can stop correct copying all together. What kind of DRM is included in the music you buy will depend on the site and the individual record labels involved.
Portable music and portable music devices are great for helping music lovers enjoy large collections without the hassle of CD cases and storage issues. They must be used and purchased with common sense, however. Piracy is a real problem in the download industry and record labels are getting very serious about prosecution.
If you believed that all of the cell phone options on the market were created for younger folks in mind, than reconsider that thought. Because in today's society, cell phone plans for seniors are equally as important. These plans need to meet the growing needs that seniors face at home and on the road.
There are a variety of cell phone plans for seniors that are available and tailored to meet their individual needs. A few of these plans would be the no fee, or pre-paid cellular phone plans that do not require a credit check, or plans with one fixed monthly payment.
And if you decide to cancel your phone contract prior to the two years, most often you will be charged a hefty fee in the range of about $200.00. This is something that pre-paid cellular phones do not require. With a prepaid cellular plan you can simply cancel the plan at any time without being charged a cancellation fee.
Prepaid cellular phone plans are also great in the way that if you are a senior and do not use the phone a great deal of the time. They also give you the convenience that you may need in time of an unexpected emergency. And an added benefit of this, is that they are all designed to fit your budget which means that they will not hurt your pocket book in the long run. This is something that most seniors will appreciate because most are already on a fixed budget.
There are a few senior friendly phones, including cell phone plans available on the market today. Two of these plans that provide a great cell phone, as well as prepaid calling plans for seniors are called Jitterbug and consumer cellular. First let's take a look at Jitterbug. This company offers a phone that has a large keypad and screen, which is ideal for seniors who have visual problems.
Jitterbug is virtually one of the best phones on the market however their phones can be a bit pricey starting at ninety-nine dollars. But if you are not on a fixed budget and can afford the higher phone price, than this brand phone will be well worth purchasing in the end. Jitterbug's calling plan is a little more reasonable starting at fifteen-dollars per month. This in turn will give you fifty minutes of talk time. Not too bad for the price.
Also keep in mind that there is a first time thirty-five dollar activation fee with Jitterbug and Consumer Cellular, which many other companies do not require of first time customers. Consumer cellular also offers two basic cell phones that a senior will feel comfortable in using. Their individual calling plans are thirty-five cents per minute, which equals about ten dollars per month.
These two basic phones without the included prepaid plan will cost an individual between $25.00 to $30.00. Remember this is a great cell phone plan for seniors without all of the associated hidden fees that a long-term contract phone company would otherwise charge. Even though Jitterbug and Consumer Cellular give you a great phone, as well as a simplified prepaid, or pay as you go plans, they still may not be affordable for all seniors searching for a more economical cell phone to suit their everyday needs.
If you are one of those individuals searching for a more cost saving cell phone plan, than another good option would be the T-Mobile prepaid line of phones. A T-Mobile phone can be purchased just about anywhere that cell phones are sold and one of their phones can also be purchased for as little as $20.00. If you purchase one of their ten dollar prepaid plans, this in turn will give you thirty minutes of talk time.
The minutes that you place on a newly purchased T-Mobile prepaid phone will not expire until after three months. And you can also carry over minutes from a prior month by adding a $20.00 prepaid service card if you wish. Another advantage of a prepaid cell phone carrier such as T-Mobile; is that they usually give you ten to fifteen dollars included with the phone, when you first buy the complete package.
If you are a senior who requires more minutes on a prepaid T-Mobile cellular phone for example, then you can always choose an optional one-hundred dollar prepaid phone card. The advantage of the $100.00 card is that with the purchase of the card you will get 1000 minutes of talk time, which will not expire until a year from the date you activate the phone.
As far as cell phone plans for seniors go, my personal favorite for these individuals would have to be Straight Talk. Straight Talk has a variety of senior friendly phones starting out at about $29.00 up to $150.00, depending on what your preference is. When you purchase a Straight Talk phone which is currently available only in Wal-Mart stores, you will have the choice of being able to purchase a $30.00 prepaid cellular phone card which gives you 1000 minutes of talk time each month.
This in itself may be a great option for seniors whether you use a cellular phone a lot, or very little during the period of a month or even a year. Because if you do not use the phone often during a given month the minutes will not be lost, or be used up all at once, as can sometimes occur with other prepaid cellular phone companies. And to add, 1000 minutes of talk time is really more than enough minutes particularly if you are a senior who doesn't need, or does not do a lot of talking on the phone.
I recently purchased a Straight Talk phone for my elderly eighty-year old mother and she simply loves it. And as far as the reception, hearing and viewing capabilities go, I honestly think that this is a very good phone with plans comparable to some of the top brands on the market today.
Finding a good cell phone plan for seniors should not have to be a complicated or costly task, but if you are a senior who is in their later years and who also lives alone, getting a good cell phone and prepaid cellular plan to go along with it, is a must. Look at it as your personal security blanket.
A mobile phone battery is one of the most important features to be considered while buying a smart phone. It is quite annoying when the battery dies or weakens in the middle of important calls. The seller might provide guarantee about the battery while choosing your handset. However, the truth remains that the life of a mobile battery is maximum two to three years.
What are the points to verify while selecting a handset?
Capacity: If the capacity of the battery is higher, its utilization time increases. Otherwise, it is often seen that after having 2 or 3 long conversations, your battery needs to be recharged. The only negative point is that a high capacity battery is long in size and heavier. Slim phones are also available of many leading brands, which come with fast charging mobile chargers, SD cards, and headsets.
Warranty: always make sure that the mobile set comes with longer period of warranty. This will assure that your battery will not get exhausted after a few years.
It is not always necessary that you buy the handset of a branded company. Any manufacturer, who provides the warranty of replacing parts and has the same quality and standard like the branded ones, is equally preferable.
Types of cell phone batteries:
Nickel cadmium commonly known as NiCad was once widely used in mobiles. The chemical used in it were harmful for humans. The mobile had to be disconnected before it was fully charged as there were chances of bursting. At present, lower grade companies use such type of battery.
Nickel Metal Hydride: they are the improved version of NiCad and give more power and run a little longer. As it can be fitted in any size, it's a favorite of mobile companies.
Lithium ion: This is made by using more advanced technology and lasts longer. It is quite expensive and has more capacity than NiMH of the same size. It doesn't adjust with older types of phones.
Lithium Polymer: the added benefit of this kind is that it is enclosed in the plastic cover instead of metal one. Therefore, it is light and due to its compatibility, it is highly recommended.
It is advisable to charge the new batteries for 24 hours undisturbed before using. Batteries usually malfunction, when it is over charged or it is being used regularly. Having long conversations also affect the capacity of the batteries. Charge the mobile whenever you get the signal to recharge. This will prolong the life of your phone batteries.

Today the heavy running applications on any mobile drain it of its battery too early and too easily. Heavy graphics games, for instance, can suck even the heaviest battery in no time. If you can keep your chargers handy all the time and also have a power source near you every time, you may free yourself of this inconvenience. But this doesn't happen always. Either you have the charger with you or the power source near you. In other words, if you have the mobile phone charger you don't have the power and vice versa.
The matter is grimmer for the people who are always on the go. They realize the importance of phone chargers only when their mobiles run out of the battery. That's why it is necessary to carry a portable charger whenever you are on the go.
Chargers come in all shapes and designs but no matter how attractive they are, they make sense only when they solve your purpose--to charge your mobile phone batteries.
Pointers to buy cell phone chargers:
A rechargeable batter's capacity is mentioned in milliamperes (mAh). You have to seek a battery of the same or more strength. If you are not aware of the strength of your cell phone battery then you must first find out this from the specifications section of the manufacturer of your mobile phone. Also consider that if the charger is of lower capacity than your battery then it may actually do the reverse--drain the power of your set's battery.
Select a brand: There are many cell phone accessories manufacturers in the market and the solution they offer can vary considerably in prices. A charger offered by one company may cost even half of what is being charged by another company, and this all may confuse a person. So what's the solution? Go with a brand, simple. A known brand will always offer a genuine product at a price that is going to remain same everywhere.
Look for warranty: Chargers do come with warranty. If you are going for a charger that is cheap but has no warranty then you might feel sorry for your decision. Going for a charger backed with a warranty would also save you from frequently changing your charger for one or the other reason.
Cell phone chargers are an important accessory for a mobile phone. Selecting it with care and caution can save us from later troubles.

There are several instant messengers available today. But the best chat apps for android are the ones that suit your individual tastes and requirements. iMessage is another app that generally comes built in. This is an advantage for all those people who do not install apps or are not enthusiastic about taking the pain of signing up for a service. Telegram has caught up the attention of many people in the recent past. The reason for its sudden rise in popularity is considered to be that it is plain, simple and good looking. Sicher is yet again another German app that comes unlimited which is free and completely secure. This could be perhaps the only app that is not influenced by the US Government and its secret policy. Though Twitter can also be used as a messaging service, the disadvantage in case of Twitter is that you can send a direct message to only those people who are following you. Though Slack is not officially a messaging app, it has all the features of a regular messenger. You can also have shortcut apps for iphone which create short cut to an application from the list of activities installed in your phone.
Nowadays, everyone seems to have the top of the range smartphone in their pocket, and while these mini computers can be incredibly helpful at carrying out everyday jobs and tasks, they are very expensive. A good smartphone could set you back by a few hundred pounds at least if you were to buy it brand new, and this might just be more than you can afford to spend on a phone.
If you find that this is in fact the case, you would be able to buy your phone on contract instead in order to save money over a number of months. A lot of phone contracts last for at least 24 months and can spread the cost very well, so you don't need to worry about making any very expensive initial payments.
However, it is important that you find a mobile phone contract that suits your budget perfectly, while also providing you with the phone that you are after. You might not want to buy a smartphone, but there are still deals and offers on phone contracts for 'normal' mobile phones available out there. No matter what kind of phone contract it is that you are looking for, you will be able to find the ideal one for you by looking online now.
This is one of the best ways to find the phone and the contract that you need. The internet makes for an excellent resource when it comes to finding phone contracts and similar things. This is because you can easily compare and contrast a number of contracts all in one go, which can show you which one is best for your needs without you having to go into a lot of detail at all.
When you look online you should consider using a mobile phone contract comparison website, as this could speed up the entire process a lot. This is because you wouldn't need to find the contracts all on your own, and you could simply fill in a short online form to narrow down your search.
If you would like to do this, all you need to do is head online now and find the right comparison website for your needs. You could then begin your search and would be able to come up with the right kind of phone deal for you. You might even be able to find some phone contracts that come with free gifts, which could mean you get even more out of your contract.
While the reasons for upgrading a phone system to are myriad, the most common one is that the old system isn't functioning in ways that is required, or there are additional features that a simple integration won't fix. But if you're a small business, how do you justify the cost?
Small businesses need phones - while a lot of the work online nowadays can be undertaken with ease on the internet, there is a basic need for phones - one of which is to confirm orders are arriving ok, order things that aren't online, or to ensure that customer satisfaction is kept high. Small businesses need phone systems to do this - whether it's a split from their main house phone for home based businesses, or a small office system that works under a series of circumstances; phone systems solve more problems than they create.
Phones for every staff member - if you're a small company, looking to ensure that your turnover is low, one of the key areas you can do so, especially in office or desk based projects is to give each member of staff an extension - whether they hot desk and log in and out of their phone, or work with one phone per desk is up to your company. Giving them this though will convey a sense of value, worth and trust.
Small businesses thrive on agility - Larger businesses may not be as agile as small businesses, so if they can make their work stand out from others, more the better - it's of vital importance for businesses to be able to contact, order or arrange things in real time - and while the internet allows that most of the time, there are some things that are easier arranged with a phone. Having a fully-fledged phone system will support this.
Small businesses can benefit greatly from a fully installed and designed phone system - it just depends on what they need to do and how long they have to do it in - when occupying new offices, you may want to consider consulting a phone systems expert.
In order to get the most for your money it is worth considering an all-in-one package for your home phone and broadband internet, as many providers will offer a discounted rate for purchasing everything as one. Some will even offer an additional mobile phone contract at a reduced rate, as well as a SKY or cable package for your TV. This also makes life easier when it comes to paying your monthly bills, as you will only have to remember one bill and you will probably notice that you are making savings each month compared to your previous set-up.
There are numerous providers offering an all-in-one package but you will need to do your research to find out what will be most suited to you. Many offers require a BT landline in order to get started, which in itself has its advantages. Unlike other landlines, a BT landline will allow you to make free calls to certain numbers such as those that start with 0800 or 0845. In addition, BT landlines offer competitive rates for calls to other UK landlines, with reduced rates for calls made in the evenings and on the weekends. Used in conjunction with your mobile, which may offer cheaper rates to other mobiles, you will see notable savings.
For broadband there are again a variety of packages available and you will need to assess what download limit you will require in order to reduce the risk of running up an expensive bill. Be wary of offers that provide 'unlimited' internet as these are often subject to a fair use policy that means they are in fact not unlimited at all! If you are the lucky owner of a smartphone you will again need to check carefully your monthly internet allowance, as some providers offer as little as 0.7MB. There are, however, some phone companies that now offer an actual unlimited internet rate for their mobiles; so that users can have peace of mind in knowing that they aren't spending more than they anticipated.
If you are thinking about incorporating a TV package then it again pays to do your research. If you are a fan of sports many households enjoy they SKY channels because, despite being overall more costly than other TV options, it can still work out cheaper than a trip to your local for several pints and a packet of crisps! If you have a high definition TV you should also consider how you will obtain the high definition channels. This usually comes as standard now with SKY or cable TV, although households can also opt for a FreeSat receiver that only requires a one-off payment.
With the increase in portable electronic and electric devices, the need for batteries has grown geometrically through the years, with no end in sight. Of these types of batteries, sealed lead batteries are the most common. Let'sa explore them in some detail.
Sealed lead batteries were created around 1975 for the purpose of having a power source that was maintenance free while also being economical for both the manufacturer and consumer. Amongst features beyond the sealing of the lead electrolyte from spillage was the formation of special release valves to allow dangerous gas build-up to release safely. Further, these sealed lead batteries were often designed to be rechargeable (which is when most of the gasses would form in this type of battery).
Two basic types of lead acid batteries were created that survived the tumults of economic and consumer demands. These were the VRLA and SLA batteries. VRLA stands for valve regulated lead acid, whereas SLA is sealed lead acid. Both types are quite synonymous overall, with little difference between them.
One of the best features of these two sealed batteries, when they are rechargeable, includes an excess voltage safety mechanism which disallows the battery's explosive gas from becoming too great in quantity. This is effected by a depletion of full potential, should the battery become over-energized. The key here is not to over charge a battery.
A great deal of effort has gone into this aspect of rechargeable batteries specifically. Not only do batteries become dangerous when they are overcharged, but on a more economic note, they lose their overall charge through time via the buildup of crystals or corrosion, which limit the amount of electrolyte storage ability.
While this is somewhat ideal for the makers of such batteries, in that it brings in further income once the recharged battery no longer will take a charge and must be replaced, there is a continual race to make this type of lead batteries more efficient and longer-lived. As well, in a time of speed being almost synonymous with efficiency, it should be noted that sealed lead batteries do not charge so quickly. They trickle chargbe over a longer period of time.
However, with lead, as opposed to lithium ion and other types of batteries, the damage and memory loss is next to nil. However, self discharge is still a fact of life, leading between 35 and 45% loss per year. So recahrgeables are not as great as first thought.
There was a time when businesses really questioned the need of a website. Well, very few do it now! Same is the situation with mobile applications now. Certain businesses (very few now) still wonder the use of mobile application for their business when they already have a website. Despite the many advantages of traditional websites, something which lets the users access the internet using their mobile devices is important. This is basically due to the fact that majority of the population these days use Smart phones and want to access everything using these devices. As a result, some have optimized their websites for mobile devices such are smart phones or tablets while some have developed custom Mobile applications for the same.
But what exactly is the difference between a Mobile Website and an App? Let's have a look!
Mobile applications are specifically designed to run on Mobile devices such as Smartphone, tablets and etc. They make internet applications and services more easily accessible on these mobile devices. Mobile websites on the other hand are just like any other websites which consists of browser based HTML pages that are linked together and are assessed over the internet. But mobile websites are designed specifically to run on smaller screens of Smart phones and iPads which are handheld and have a touch-screen interface. This is the basic characteristic difference between a mobile website and a normal one.
Mobile applications are downloaded and installed on the mobile device and do not need a browser to work on. These are independent applications. Users can download apps from different portals based on specific devices such as Android's Play Store, Apple's App Store or Windows Store etc.
Whereas Mobile websites are readily opened on browsers on the mobile device. Whenever we open a website via a mobile device it automatically redirects to a mobile version of it.
Mobile Applications may pull the content from the Internet just like a website; it does not need a browser to do so. It can also download the content from the internet so that it can be accessed later without the availability of an internet connection.
Mobile websites have all the functionalities of a normal website such as its text content, videos, images and any other kind of data. In addition of these normal features they can also access mobile specific features such as GPS mapping based on your location and calling by taping on a phone number.
So these were some prime differences between a mobile app and a website. As it can be observed, mobile apps several functionalities and features which a mobile website can never provide you with. It is useful when you want functionalities which are more specific and cannot be achieved by a browser.

VoIP, or voice over internet protocol, simply put, is a way to make phone calls over the internet with the use of an analog telephone adapter. In making "phone calls" in this manner, the user can often avoid the high charges from the phone company, especially in the case of long distance calls.
How does it Happen?
A VoIP provider converts the audio message (your voice) from analog form into digital form with an ATA (analog telephone adapter) so that the media can be sent over the internet. On the other end, the digital media is then converted back into an analog form as would be heard on a regular phone call.
At first, the process may sound foreign and complex, but it's really no different than making a regular phone call. It begins when you start to dial - the tones are converted to digital, sent over the internet, and then routed from your VoIP service provider to the public switched telephone network to make the connection to the intended recipient.
Once the call is connected, even if the phone on the other end has no digital capabilities, everything will go as is customary with a call placed through a regular phone service provider. Your voice will be converted into digital packets of media that will be transmitted over the internet seamlessly before being converted back into analog form and heard on the other end of the phone call.
You use your regular telephone, plugged into an adapter, just as you would during the process of making a phone call through a regular phone service provider, there are no changes at all in terms of usage other than where your phone is plugged in.
What you need to make the Change
This can depend on the VoIP service provider that you choose to use and how you choose to make your calls. There is software available that will allow you to use your PC as your phone, but in most cases if you choose to use your regular phone, all that you'll need is the analog telephone adapter which your VoIP service provider will supply to allow you to plug your phone into the internet.
Since your entire phone call takes place having been transmitted in digital form through your internet connection, you avoid using the standard phone company's equipment and service entirely, which means that you'll also avoid incurring said phone company's outrageous charges as well - even if you are making long distance phone calls.
Voice over internet protocol may sound like some very complex technology, and there is no doubt that it is, but as soon as the average person learns that using VoIP won't change a single thing about how he or she goes about making a phone call (with the exception of drastically lowering the price) the more it will catch on.
As with adopting, or changing to any new, unfamiliar form of technology there will be some bugs or glitches and some features (or lack thereof) that people won't like or that will take some time to get used to, but technology is changing fast for the better. VoIP service providers are constantly looking for ways of improving service and making the overall experience of switching over to voice over internet protocol a smoother and easier one. It may very well only be a matter of time before VoIP is no longer just a threat to the standard phone service providers of today, but the main source of how average people connect with others.
It probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise that you can already integrate a VOIP Asterix Phone system into your office. Lower the cost of your monthly plans, including the cost of long distance calls, and enjoy the reliability, availability and accessibility of VoIP for your employees.
The telephone has been a familiar piece of technology in the home since it was first invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. The mechanism behind how a phone works is fairly simple and one which has stood the test of time, as telephones today are still based on the same principals as the phones that were used over a hundred years ago. Basically, a phone transmits audio using radio waves which are then converted into sound at the other end of the line by using oscillating metal substances and electrodes. The radio wave aspect to the phone has been further developed into cordless phones which give the user freedom to move around the house whilst on a call. This works by transmitting the data from the handset back to the base, which in turn receives and sends data via the phone line.
Mobile phones were the next development in telephone technology and these also operate over a radio link in a wide geographical area. Unlike the cordless telephone, which connects to a private base station in the home, a mobile phone connects to a cellular network giving the user capability to use the phone wherever there is signal available. The first handheld mobile phone was used in 1973 and weighed around 1kg! Today, mobile phones not only offer a calling service but also the ability to send text messages, access the internet and use short range wireless communications such as blue tooth.
In recent years, communication technology has progressed to the internet which offers fast and often free services. With the development of broadband internet it has become possible to make calls that match the quality of the traditional landline telephone over the internet. In addition, users can send other data such as video imagery with the use of a webcam. This has become ever more popular as the calls are free and can connect you to someone on the other side of the world. Most smartphones now incorporate a video call feature which makes use of the phone's built-in camera, microphone and internet access.
With all this technology you may wonder whether it is even worth keeping a landline phone in your home anymore. Landline phones still offer a competitive rate for calls and you will also find that most broadband packages require a landline before they can be set up in your home. Landline phones offer more security than mobile networks and your landline phone won't suddenly run out of battery mid-conversation. More importantly, you should always keep a traditional landline phone (i.e. not a cordless model) in case of an emergency. If you have a power cut, this is the only device that does not require a mains electricity supply and in addition it can be easily traced by the emergency services.
If you're in a public place and stop to look around, you are almost guaranteed to find the majority of people have a mobile phone and are almost glued to it. However, many are not using their phone to make a call but rather to text, take pictures, browse the Internet or check social networking sites.
With the increasing number of functions of a mobile phone, it is becoming possible to do a huge variety of things on the move - some may even say they are becoming like a mini computer. There are a number of comparisons between a mobile phone and a computer; beginning with the actual components, both have a screen, keyboard and battery as part of their essential make-up. Furthermore, both have the ability to play music and videos, access emails and the Internet, create documents and spreadsheets and play games.
The link between computers and mobile phones is becoming greater as time passes by; there is much overlap between the two devices, and they can even be synced to one another to allow easy access to information, pictures and audio/video files at all times. With the huge variety of computers and mobile phones on the market you can choose devices that complement each other well, emulating the way in which they are run and the tasks they perform.
Browsing the Internet used to be a rather frustrating exercise on a mobile phone due to slow loading speeds and the size of the mobile phone screen not supporting website page sizes easily. They were seemingly incompatible. However, with the creation of bespoke applications for many websites, the experience of browsing the Internet on your phone has now become in many ways akin to that of a computer. This is because the applications are tailored specifically for mobile phones.
In addition, when browsing the Internet on your mobile, many websites recognise this and either automatically load mobile versions of their site or give you an on-screen prompt for this. Once again this shows how mobile phones have become the forefront of modern technology. To think how far mobile phones have come in such a short space of time is incredible.
Although there is still a need for a computer in many circumstances, a mobile phone is increasingly useful in that it enables you to access information whenever and wherever you choose. After all, making life easier is the ultimate goal.
There are many options for computer telephony software; predictive dialers, auto dialers, power dialers, and ratio dialers. However, the two most widely used are predictive and power dialers.
How do you choose the one that is right for you? To help you answer that question here is a list of the pros and cons of each.
How it works
* The predictive dialer works on it's ability to predict when the next agent will be available.
* It tries to match the time that a prospect will answer the phone to when an agent will be available for the call.
* The agent logs into the dialer and it starts dialing prospects until one answers the phone.
* Using the averages of several key variables: talk time, rings before a customer picks up, and percentage of dialed calls answered, etc. The dialer makes more phone calls to match the agents with new people to speak with, when they finish their current calls.
Advantages of predictive dialers over power dialers
* Very little down time for agents.
* Higher rates of speaking with people
* Often calls are "abandoned", meaning a prospect will pick up and no agents will be available to speak with them.
* Lag time. Prospect says "hello" multiple times with a delayed response from agent. Because agents are not switch over to a call until the dialer detects a live person.
How it works
* The dialer calls you then calls the next phone number in your database
* The dialer bridges the two calls together before the prospect answers so you are ready to talk when they answer, no delays.
* So as long as you are connected to the dialer it keeps dialing when you are available keeping you busy and productive.
Advantages of the power dialer over predictive dialers
* Increased productivity make 3 to 4 times as many calls as manual dialing. An average of 300 calls a day.
* Increased messaging leave more unique voice messages for your contacts. Meaning you can leave a voice mail while you have already begun to dial the next contact.
* You can make sure you tie up loose ends before moving on to the next call such as scheduling callback time, sending emails & faxes, or leaving a voice mail.
* Won't contact as many people as predictive dialer
The predictive dialer is a quantity approach. The predictive dialer allows you to make more calls and speak with more people with the drawback being you are going to miss talking to some of the people you dial because of abandonment.
The power dialer won't make quite as many calls. However, the quality of the calls will increase dramatically, due to no abandonment. Agents are also able to tie up loose ends before moving on to the next call. There is also an ability to set up automated processes with the power dialer software allowing you to automate your processes of sending emails, voice mails and much more without actually having to do it live.

It is impossible for any business to be successful without customers. And in order to grow a business you must talk to as many of them as possible. In addition studies show that contacting leads within five minutes of them showing interest increases the likelihood of them becoming a customer.
A voice messaging system can help you with do more with less. It is a simple way to communicate with both sales leads and current customers. It is a system for calling a large number of individuals and presenting them a prerecorded voice message. These messages are recorded by you and your employees, allowing your contacts to have a good and personal experience. It also frees your live agents to be working with those contacts that show the most interest.
Voice messaging systems managing telephone messages that can then be sent to a large number of people. They are perfect for sales, prospecting, lead generation and appointment-setting, or for any other organization that want to make a high number of calls in a short period of time automatically using a prerecorded message.
There are some key features to look forward in a voice messaging system to make sure that you get the best service and highest returns from your investment
Find a system that uses a single screen for the multiple tasks it has to perform. This will allow your organization to efficiently cover all the tasks you need: leaving prerecorded messages, recording calls, converting leads, sending emails.
Make sure your voice messaging system allows for the option that any lead listening to the pre-recorded message has the option to be routed to a live person, receive an email, or opt out of future calls. This should be as easy as simply pushing a button for the recipients of your messages.
De-duplication is a must. This feature automatically makes sure the same phone number will not be sent the same message numerous times.
You will want a system with the capacity to manage your do not call list. Look for software that will not only keep track of those contacts who ask to be taken off of your calling list, but also one that will cross-check against the national DNC list for larger projects by utilizing the CRM.
Going with a trusted company that will host your voice messaging system will save you money compared to purchasing your own hardware and software to run the system yourself. This will allow you to effectively start sending messages to your contacts regardless of how little prior experience you have with voice messaging, and will also give you flexibility as your company expands.
Voice messaging will free your employees from making simple, routine calls while still allowing your customers to receive a personalized message from your company and easily getting in touch with a live person. A well designed voice messaging system has the potential to catapult the progress of your organization.

Everybody has a mobile phone these days. They all come out of their factories with their company's standard settings on them, so they all come out the same. All Nokias, all Sony-Ericssons are the same and all Samsungs are the same.
Millions and millions of them, all the same. However, they all, each single one of them have the potential of being personalized in hundreds, if not thousands of combinations.
The majority of cell phones have a minimum of twelve different ring tones; twelve different screen savers, twelve different wallpapers, twelve different themes and twelve different colour schemes and some have twenty or more of each.
It is also possible to download further variations and sometimes even to make your own. This means that there are usually thousands ofways of personalizing your cell phone.
Although most individuals do not go to the bother of changing the wallpaper, screen saver or theme, most individuals do experiment with the ring tone. Older individuals may just use one of the regular ring tones that came with the phone, but younger people are more likely to either buy a ring tone or download one of the thousands of free ones accessible on line.
One problem for ring tone enthusiasts was (or even still is for some) that there is no true standardization of the music format between the cell phone manufacturers. This means that a ring tone in Samsung format will not work on a Nokia et cetera. This resulted in the creation of ring tone converters, although some phones cannot make use of them.
Another way of getting around this is to upload your ring tone to an on line converter, convert it then either SMS it back to your cell phone or download it to a computer and transfer it to your phone by wire or by Bluetooth. It is all too much bother for most older people, although it is quite simple when you have done it once or twice.
Other cell phones have a composer built in. These composers are quite elementary in some phones, but others allow polyphonic composition. However, it can be quite tedious to compose a decent tune, so this is one for the expert customizer with time on his or her hands only.
One ability that practically all cell phones have, and which most people do not use to the full is assigning different ring tones to different people or groups of individuals. For instance, you could have one ring tone for your parents or spouse and one for your home landline. Then if you hear those ring tones, you know that you should answer it.
You could have one for your friends, so that even without glancing at the screen, you know that you could have an amusing conversation to cheer up your day and you could have one for your boss so that you know to ignore it if it rings outside working hours.
It is fun to personalize your cell phone and it can be done quite quickly once you get going and it allows you to while away half an hour next time you are waiting for a train.
Communication is essential in today's busy world. Everywhere you turn, people are talking, texting blogging and surfing the Internet on their cell phones. With increased use, functionality and popularity, cell phone accessories were created to make toting around your portable device and staying connected 24/7 easier than ever before.
The Types of Cell Phone Accessories
When people hear the phrase, cell phone accessories, they often think of cases, covers and aesthetic additions to the cell phone. Cell phone accessories are not limited to aesthetics. There are many choices in the accessory market that prove more functional than beautiful.
For the MP3 compatible phone, there are accessories to listen to the music through your car speakers, portable speakers and charging devices that are essential due to the battery spent while listening to music. This is just one example of cell phone accessories that are more functional, common categories include batteries, Bluetooth, cases, clips, car chargers, home chargers, USB cables, car kits, mounts, wireless kits, downloads, applications and more.
How to Choose the Best Accessories
The first step in choosing the best cell phone accessories is understanding the model number of your phone. There are phone names and then there are model numbers. The Motorola Razr, for instance, is a phone name. Under that name there are many different models. The V3i offers integrated iTunes and will require an additional battery or portable charger on a regular basis. Other Razr models will not fit the same accessories as the V3i, or other Razr model numbers.
Once you know the name and model number of your cell phone, many manufacturers and online retailers will list the available accessories. Just because an accessory is available for one cell phone does not mean it will be available for every cell phone. This means researching the accessories available for a cell phone before choosing the phone may be a money saving option in the long run.
Another huge factor in choosing the accessories for your cell phone is your daily life. If you use your cell phone in the car, a car mount will increase safety. If you use your phone only occasionally, a Bluetooth earpiece may not be something you will benefit from. The idea is to ask yourself these questions:
* What do I do with my cell phone every day?
* Do my activities require additional battery life?
* Am I using my cell phone to its full capacity?
* Is the accessory cost going to be recouped in ease of use?
* Will I use the accessory every day?
Cell phones are available all over the world; keeping people connected to each other 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This constant connection and the huge increases in network speeds and connectivity between the Internet and the cell phone point toward the accessory market. The more your phone can do the more accessories available to make that cell phone and your use of the cell phone, all the easier and more productive.
If you are thinking about changing your mobile phone now is the time to give some thought into your phone usage requirements.
If you are trying to run a phone on the cheap and already have a handset then you can go for a sim only contract. You will be able to pay a monthly fee and have an allowance of minutes and texts or internet usage. This will appeal to the person who is not interested in the type of phone that they use and only uses the phone occasionally. Some people like to own and carry a phone for emergencies only or simply to make very quick calls or texts once or twice a week.
Another even cheaper way to run a mobile phone is to use an existing phone or purchase a basic model that can only make texts or makes calls without any fancy settings or facilities. Then buy a simple sim card that allows you to top up and pay as you go. You can top up sim cards in most supermarkets, garages and corner shops. This type of phone and set up should be for the occasional user - the sort of person who would suit this deal probably only uses the phone every now and again. Some people like to carry a phone when they are away on business or travelling.
The next option available to you is a cheap monthly contract with a free phone - this would be less flexible than pay as you go because you would be tied into a 12 or 24 monthly contract. With this type of deal you would pay a fixed monthly amount and have an amount of texts and minutes available to you. Some very good deals are available for as little as £10 per month you may have 100 texts and minutes. This deal would suit someone who wants a new phone and does not use the phone constantly.
The best deal for the mobile phone addict is the all-inclusive deal - you may pay around £35 per month. For this type of contract you would normally have a nice 'top of the range' phone with such a high allowance for texts, calls and internet that you could never go over it.
There are so many variations of mobile phone contract available that there really is one to suit everybody. The secret is to make sure you don't allow yourself to use the phone outside of the limits - this can mean a costly bill. If you regularly go over allowances it is useful to pay a little extra each month to give you a substantial amount of extra usage.
The history of gadgets spans as far back as humanity itself -- since hominids began creating tools to make their lives easier. Humans have always created devices and appliances with specific practical purposes that were initially thought of as novelties, due to unfamiliarity with and initial unwillingness to accept the technology. Today, industry has augmented the creation of new gadgets, while certain retailers, including Brookstone and Richard Thalheimer's RichardSolo.com, specialize in popularizing them.
What famous inventors Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Leonardo da Vinci, among others, had in common was foresight. They understood that a lifetime spent playing with what others viewed as toys and senseless gadgets would eventually result in indispensable technology. From just that small group, the groundwork for electricity, communications, film, and flight was laid because of their gadgets, which obviously possessed more value than novelty.
Perhaps one of the earliest, most well known gadgets created is the wheel, many millennia ago. Take a ride in your car and witness how truly revolutionary such a gadget became and how much we now rely on it for transportation. A more recent gadget, the Apple iPhone, appears to be the beginning stages of yet another gadget-turned-necessity that will reshape communications.
"The iPhone may someday be looked upon as the device that started a second revolution in computing. Desktop computing was the first revolution. Hand-held computing will someday be regarded as the second revolution, and the iPhone is the product that started it."
-Richard Thalheimer, RichardSolo.com
All gadgets were not created equal. In fact most inventions are built on the newest technology. The world of gadgets is tiered; devices fall into one of four categories: mechanical, electronic, programmable, and application. Mechanical gadgets include the wheel, as well as later developments such as the pulley, the bicycle, the sail boat, the thermometer and the sort. Following the advent of electricity, gadgets were taken to a new level as inventors began to discover different uses for the newly harnessed energy. The television, radio and quartz watch are examples of electronic gadgets. After electricity, inventors toyed around with electronic information via microprocessor, beginning an age of programmable devices such as computers, and later, MP3 players and the iPhone. Application gadgets include iTunes, Microsoft Office and other computer applications that customize our experience with programmable devices.
Richard Thalheimer, the President and founder of online gadget vendor RichardSolo.com, and founder and former CEO of gadget giant The Sharper Image, understands, maybe better than anyone, that there's much more to gadgets than novelty.
"Certainly most people enjoy the novelty of a gadget that introduces new convenience to their lifestyle. What they forget is that solving these everyday problems is not just entertainment, but some of these devices become functional necessities. In my personal life, I rely on my iPhone, my garage door opener, my nose hair trimmer, my electric toothbrush, and other gadgets that were once regarded as novel gadgets. "
- Richard Thalheimer, RichardSolo.com
Both his former brainchild and his current venture sell quirky, useful and fun gadgets of all types, from mechanical to programmable and application. He has seen some devices, such as the Ionic Breeze air purifier, spur sensational and lasting trends based on a realization of utility value, while others collected dust on the shelves after their novelty wore out. Specialty stores like The Sharper Image and Richard Thalheimer's RichardSolo.com serve a greater purpose: spread new ideas, and give credit to the Franklins and Edisons of the world.

Is there a FREE reverse cell phone or unlisted phone look up service?
Many places online advertise "FREE cell phone look up services", but in actuality the only really beneficial no-cost directories to be found are of land line phone numbers. Why is this? Because for a very long time, land line numbers have been openly published. The phone companies consider cell phone numbers to be private and are reluctant to release those numbers. Also, your cell phone bill is usually based on time used. Knowing that their customers don't want to waste usage time, the cell phone companies refuse to publicly provide cell phone numbers.
So, you won't get much useful information from these "FREE" services if you're looking for unlisted or cell phone number information. You can get some very general information from some of them, but not the name and address of the owner of the number.
Recently I desperately needed to put an end to some obscene phone calls from a sicko unknown caller. For about a couple of weeks, I had been receiving calls from a no ID number. When I answered the phone, the caller said nothing but started panting and making sexual grunts and sounds. I found these calls frustrating, annoying and a little scary. The frequency of the irksome calls began to escalate on a daily basis.
Finally, I did call the police who told me that there wasn't much they could do since no actual crime had been committed. The police did tell me that I could call my phone provider and give them the exact time of the call or calls and that my phone provider would probably give me the originating phone number. This information did help somewhat, but since the calls were coming from a cell phone, I still didn't know who was making the aggravating calls.
Armed with the cell phone number of the persistent culprit caller, I fired up the old PC and began to search the Net for the elusive "Free Cell Phone Lookup Service".
Googling for a "Free reverse cell phone look up service" is a maddening counterproductive activity, that is if you're looking for real information like the identity and address of an obscene caller. Here a click, there a click, everywhere a click, click... I clicked every "FREE" Cell Phone Lookup Service that I could find only to discover a dead end with each subsequent frenzied click of the mouse. Basically, I got a large dose of the Online Runaround, something almost everyone has probably experienced at one time or the other. Every so-called FREE service that I tried eventually led me to a paid service costing from $4.95 up to $14.95.
Some free cell phone lookup websites do exist, but they offer only limited information about a number. These sites "decode" cell phone numbers to help you determine the issuing location, carrier, and other publicly available information.
In general, you'll be able to find out whether the number belongs to a cell or a land line, what mobile service provides the number, and which city and state the cell phone number comes from without ever paying... but the actual name and address of the registered user of that cell phone number won't be available (unless you get extremely lucky). I wasn't lucky!
After a couple hours, I finally got the message, the only way I was going to put a stop to the stinking phone calls was to use a premium paid cell phone lookup service. Paid reverse Cell phone directories are created manually by large companies who collect the information from various services. The process of compiling and creating these databases is very expensive and time-consuming which is why there is a charge for the information. I guess they have to pay their bills too!
A word of caution... A large number of sites have popped up on the Internet offering cell phone lookups for a fee. Considering the limitations of these services, the fees can be very steep. Some companies actually have tried to "skip" the process of building cell phone databases. These services just give you a list of services that sell these lookups and disappear when you ask for a refund. That money will just disappear, and you'll be back to your search... so why not go "straight to a proven source" from the beginning?
There are a number of reputable Reverse Cell Phone Lookup Services online that offer a money back guarantee service. The best services give customers free search assistance and are backed by a 100% no-quibble, no-strings attached guarantee. You're either satisfied or you're not...and if you're not, then you don't pay. Period!
After checking with Phone Reverse Lookup Review and http://ConsumbersGuide.Org, I used Reverse Phone Detective with very satisfactory results. Considered the Grand Daddy in reverse cell phone search, their website has the largest phone directory in the U.S with approximately one billion records. I gave Reverse Phone Detective a whirl and bingo, bingo, bingo; they found the cell phone caller name and address. Additionally, they found his race, age, marital status, civil records, and criminal records.
This was really more information that I was looking for, but now I had the information I needed to confidently put a stop to the annoying phone calls. I called the guy up right from the phone he had been calling me, he evidently recognized my caller ID because I never heard from him again. If he had answered my call, I could have told him that I have completed an investigation and that I now know who he is, to stop calling my number, or I will take immediate legal action. Knowledge is power isn't it?
While free cell phone lookup services may be appropriate if you're only looking for very general information (like the phone issuing location), you won't find much information that will help you if your object is to identify the psycho who is calling you repeatedly. If you're serious about determining who is calling you, then use a premium paid service.
In conclusion, there are some "Free Cell Phone Lookup Services" on the Net, however these services provide only limited general information. For the most part, their claims are misleading if you want to find the accurate cell phone owner information. There are rare instances where you might actually get the owner's name and address, but as a usual course of events you will be directed to a paid premium site for that pertinent information.
